I founded Goldfinch Counseling because I wanted to be on the leading edge of offering relationship-focused services in Des Moines. Relationships have meant everything to me in my life. Some relationships have soured and left me feeling lost, adrift, and confused. Other relationships have thrived, which have left me feeling resourced and capable.
Have you ever had a disagreement with your partner and felt like “that wasn’t me” or “that wasn’t us”? Maybe your fights leave you stunned into silence or enraged into shouting. Why is someone calm and courageous in the office, but yelling at home? I’ve been relentlessly curious about how our relationship dynamics can pull out parts of our selves that feel strange and scary. So I’ve been immersing myself in every opportunity to learn about complex relational dynamics, attachment, and the impact of our environments on our nervous systems.
Now, we find ourselves in the midst of an increasingly polarized world, which is putting a strain on our relationships and our inner sense of well-being. People are feeling increasingly stressed and lonely. So I feel even more urgency now to be a resource for mending relationships because our mental well-being is linked to the health of our most important relationships.
Luckily, I find myself surrounded by other therapists who also believe in the power of relationships for enhancing mental health. Our team has invested time, resources, and energy into deep training so your relationships can thrive. We are huge nerds about relationships, attachment theory, and the complex dynamics between our minds, bodies, relationships, and eco-systems.
Relationship work isn’t just for couples. It’s for individuals struggling with anxiety and depression, it’s for parents wanting to reconnect with their adult children, it’s for siblings trying to find a path back to each other. Whatever brings you through our doors, I hope you find yourself more deeply connected to yourself and others. The world needs the deepest, most connected version of you.
